Roanoke
Valley Democrats gathered for the final time before The Election
in front of the “old” Fire Station Number 1 to meet The 2009 Candidates.
Behind in the polls, Governor Kaine sought to encourage the crowd to do some last minute campaigning before the election.
Senator Warner, who was scheduled to speak, was sick with the flu, but Kaine was flanked by Creigh Deeds, Jody Wagner, & Steve Shannon,
along with local dignitaries, including State Senator John Edwards, 11th District Delagate Onzlee Ware (who is running for re-election)
Roanoke City Mayor David Bowers, Vice Mayor Sherman Lea, & City Council members including Gwen Mason (who is running for the 17th District House seat).
Wagner, who is running for Lieutenant Governor, was particularly inspiring, as she proclaimed "Roanoke Rocks!" to a crowd of over 200 people,
some of which were Democrats from North Carolina and West Virginia who travelled to Roanoke to help in the campaign.
Meanwhile some Roanokers going to work were attracted by free coffee, biscuts, and doughnuts, and stayed to hear the candidates speak.
Deeds made the closing argument and reminded those attending polls predicting his lopsided loss in the governor's race mean nothing if his party can tap into the Democrats who made the party triumphant last year.
