Dr. David Trinkle was appointed Associate Dean of Community & Culture at The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute.
Carilion claims it "mistakenly" ensnared the poor after years of suing indigent patients for unpaid medical bills by seeking judgements against people who clearly were unable to pay the outrageous charges from the region's largest health care provider. Carilion accounted for over 51% of all cases in Roanoke Civil Court.
Local judges didn't seem to notice. Patients who qualified for charitable care didn't get it, but instead were taken to court. As a "non" - profit Carilion is supposed to provide care to 1.5 Million people in Western Virginia regardless of their ability to pay for it. Two days of every week were set aside by The Roanoke City Court System to be devoted to the Carilion case load.
